Joanne Baxter grew up playing outside and discovering the world around her. On rainy days she loved drawing, painting, and making. She lived in England where it rained quite a lot, so she had plenty of practice! Subsequently, Joanne went to Staffordshire University where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in textile design.

After living and working in London for three years, Joanne moved to Manhattan where she began developing emerging trends as well as designing prints and textiles for the country’s leading children’s wear and women’s wear brands.

After her children were born, Joanne returned to painting and drawing, selling her art in local New Jersey galleries and stores.

With the launch of Lotus & Bug, Joanne has found a home for all her passions, including drawing, painting, print and pattern, as well as children’s wear design.

She feels very lucky to be working with her friend and fellow artist, Mary Blackstock, and that they both get to spend their days designing and making something they are so passionate about.

She lives by the Lotus & Bug motto - don’t just wear it, live it!
