Mandala Love

The word Mandala means "circle". A Mandala represents the circles of life encompassing friends, family and communities symbolizing the notion that life is never ending. Mandalas can be created to represent a journey through life or to reveal a path towards growth and development. In many cultures, mandalas are used as a form of meditation and a tool for healing. Here at Lotus & Bug we like the thought of our mandala encompassing our community, which is you!! Here is a picture of our kids making a mandala out of flower petals. These petals are recycled from a bouquet of flowers that we used in our first ever photo shoot for Lotus & Bug, and so the circle of our collection continues…

Try this project at home or outside with your kids:

You can start by taking a selection of flowers and leaves from around your garden or when you are out exploring. If flowers are not an option, beautiful patterns can be made with leaves, rocks, berries, acorns, or pine cones. Even in winter months, you can do this project in the snow! Its a good idea to always work with what you have growing in your garden, or with seasonal ground flowers which is best for the environment. Choose the ones you think have the most interesting shapes and colors. Once you have collected all of your treasures you can start to create your mandala design. You need to be gentle with the petals as you pull them off the flowers, and be mindful to place them carefully. You can make your design as simple or as complex as you like, matching your colors or contrasting them, and making both random and repeating patterns. Once you have finished don't forget to take a photo then you can either pull it apart and make a different pattern or leave it out there for some one else to discover as a little gift from nature! Stay tuned for a chance to win a free Lotus & Bug t-shirt. Check out our Facebook page for upcoming details. Get out there and start your circle!.
